“The Sandringham Lagoon rehabilitation project delivered an important wetland habitat for fish and other fauna, including native birds, where the recolonisation of the lagoon was pretty much instant. This demonstrates that habitat restoration can be done on a large scale and that heavy machinery can be modified to work in these conditions.
Critical to the success was the incredible skill of the excavator operator, Laurence Bonaventura, working in and among the existing riparian trees, who went above and beyond in his contribution to the success of this project.
The project was a great example of collaboration among landholders, volunteers, regional bodies and state government.”
